KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee has cancelled Torch Night due to expected inclement weather.

The outside event was scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, in Circle Park. Torch Night will not be rescheduled this year. Rita Sanders Geier, recently appointed to help lead diversity efforts on campus, was going to be the keynote speaker.

UT Chancellor Loren Crabtree said he and university administrators regret that incoming freshmen will not be able to take part in this campus tradition and hear Ms. Geier give the keynote address; however, the safety of students, faculty, staff and invited guests is paramount.
