Preliminary Headcount: UT System Sees 4.3 Percent Growth
KNOXVILLE –- Student enrollment is up by 4.3 percent across the UT system, according to preliminary enrollment numbers reported by each campus after 14 days of classes.
Enrollment is now 46,730, compared to 44,788 students last year.
Students enroll in UT system entities that include student campuses in Knoxville, Chattanooga and Martin, as well as the UT Health Science Center in Memphis and the UT Space Institute (UTSI) in Tullahoma.
UT Knoxville had the largest enrollment of any system entity, and it reported the largest increase in students this year. The preliminary 2007 headcount is 27,308 — 748 more than the 26,560 reported in 2006. That’s a 2.8 percent change. UT Knoxville numbers include students pursuing advanced degrees at UTSI.
Here’s a look at the other system entities in order of size:
• At UT Chattanooga, headcount rose 7.1 percent, from 8,923 in 2006 to 9,558 in 2007.
• UT Martin is at 7,173 students, an increase of 4.3 percent over last year’s 6,880.
• The Health Science Center has 2,691 students, an 11 percent increase over last year’s headcount of 2,425.
• The Space Institute has 231 students, up from 201 in 2006. That’s an increase of 14.9 percent.
