Safety Efforts Increased in Fort Sanders
UT and Knoxville police have increased patrols in the Fort Sanders area near campus. The additional patrols began Nov. 12 and will continue indefinitely.
Also, "Fort Sanders Safety Day" will be held on Monday, Dec. 3. Both UT and Knoxville police, students, UT officials and neighborhood representatives will staff tents at various sites that afternoon to distribute safety information, refreshments and freebies.
Fort Sanders residents, as well as commuters who use parking garages in the area, will see posters and door hangers placed throughout the area soon.
Fort Sanders, adjacent to campus, is not UT property; but many students, faculty and staff live in houses and apartments there. While the overall number of crimes in the area has declined this year, robberies have increased.
