Research Foundation Funds New Technologies

Six Knoxville-based UT researchers and research groups have been selected for technology development grants by the UT Research Foundation. The grants give researchers extra funding to move their work toward a point where it can be put to commercial use.

The six projects, part of the 10 grants awarded, were chosen from more than 40 proposals. A total of $165,000 was awarded.

Knoxville-based grant winners are David C. Baker, UT Knoxville, for work on an anti-tumor agent; John Biggerstaff, UT Knoxville, for work on technology to slow or prevent cancer metastasis; Antonin Bukovsky and Michael Caudle, UT Health Science Center Graduate School of Medicine, for work on improved fertility technology; Shigetoshi Eda, Cathy Scott and Steve Oliver, UT Institute of Agriculture, for work on a diagnostic test for bacterial infections; Juan Jurat-Fuentes, UT Institute of Agriculture, for work on a new bio-pesticide; and Steve Oliver, UT Institute of Agriculture, Knoxville, for work on a vaccine to prevent mastitis in dairy cows.
