UT’s Printmaking Program Hosts Big Orange Ink Open House Sunday
Printmaking and basketball at the University of Tennessee are among the best in the nation.
Both will be celebrated at the Big Orange Ink Open House, an annual event that gives the community a chance to see the work of students and faculty in the printmaking program in the UT School of Art.
The open house is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 2, to coincide with the UT men’s basketball game against Kentucky. The print shop in the Art + Architecture Building will be open to the public.
Men’s basketball coach Bruce Pearl contributed to the open house by making an etching of a diagram of a basketball play. Prints of the etching will be sold for $30 apiece, and proceeds will support the UT Print Club’s trip to the Southern Graphics Council Conference.
Also during the open house, a woodcut depicting Smokey will be produced, and students will demonstrate stone lithography, intaglio, papermaking and other printmaking techniques.
The UT printmaking program has been ranked third in the nation by U.S. News and World Report. The Volunteers, meanwhile, moved up to No. 1 this week.
The printmaking events are free and open to the public.
