You’ve probably noticed the blossoming trees around campus and may even have some in your backyard. Learn how to get your trees ready for spring at the UT Gardens Tree Pruning course from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 12. The fee is $39 and registration ends Friday, April 4.

The course covers the basics of pruning with an outdoor demonstration. Taught by a professional arborist, participants will learn how to remove dead branches, crowded or rubbing limbs and potential hazards.

Pruning trees correctly keeps them healthy, safe and beautiful. Pruning also can increase light and air penetration to the tree’s crown or to the surrounding landscape. Pruning is a corrective or preventative measure: since each cut has the potential to change the tree’s growth, no branch should be removed without a reason.

The class will meet on the UT West (Agriculture) Campus at the Friendship Plaza of the UT Gardens. This education program will be taught by Sam Adams of Cortese Tree Specialists, Inc. and is offered by the Friends of the University of Tennessee Gardens through UT Outreach and Continuing Education Professional and Personal Development.
