KNOXVILLE — Members of Greek organizations at UT are on a building blitz.

As part of Greek Week, students began building a Knoxville Habitat for Humanity house on Saturday, March 29. The students are working nine hours a day for one week on the house, which is located off Western Avenue in the Lonsdale community.

A dedication of the house is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, April 5.

“This project is a testament to each individual organization’s core values, and that the Greek community at UT is committed to upholding the reputation of the university, leading with integrity, and being proactive citizens of the greater Knoxville community,” said Grant McDermott, president of the Interfraternity Council.

Members of the Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Council and National Panhellenic Council helped raise the $25,000 needed to build the house.

Andrew Godbold, IFC executive vice president, came up with the idea a year ago and got the process started.

“The University of Tennessee is well-known as home to the Volunteers, and as members of the UT Greek community, fraternity and sorority men and women put a special emphasis on our community and service to others. Philanthropic events such as the Habitat for Humanity Blitz Build give us an opportunity to live up to our reputation for volunteerism and show the community what we are all about,” Godbold said.
