Ewing Gallery to Exhibit New Orleans Photos
The UT Ewing Gallery will present “Before and After Katrina: The Photography Collection of the Ogden Museum,” Feb. 3 – March 1. On view will be a selection of over 50 photographs from this New Orleans museum’s collection.
Included will be works by noted photographers Walker Evans, William Eggleston, William Christenberry and Eudora Welty.
In conjunction with the exhibition, nationally-recognized painting conservator Richard White will present a public talk at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, at the Knoxville Museum of Art. He will discuss his involvement with post-Katrina artwork restorations.
White has restored paintings for museums both in the U.S. and abroad including the New Orleans Museum of Art, the David Rockefeller Collection, Harvard University, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and The National Gallery.
On Monday, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m. in the McCarty Auditorium of the Art + Architecture Building, Ogden Museum curator David Houston will discuss the photographs presented in the exhibition and the daunting work in which both he and White immersed themselves in the rebuilding of the New Orleans arts community.
The exhibition preview reception will follow in the Ewing Gallery at 8 p.m.
