University of Tennessee, Knoxville, faculty have written nearly 90 books over the last year, on topics ranging from textbooks on analytical statistics to the history of American cinema.

The university recently recognized and celebrated that accomplishment with a reception held at Hodges Library, and with a new Web page featuring their books.

The reception this week was hosted by University of Tennessee Libraries and the Office of Research. Eighty UT Knoxville faculty authors were honored at the event. Their books deal with topics such as solar eclipses, the history of Tennessee Lady Vols basketball, stories of Tennessee residents who survived the Holocaust, and plant biotechnology and genetics.

“Our faculty are outstanding scholars and writers. It is a privilege to showcase their work,” said Barbara Dewey, dean of UT Libraries.

The Office of Research also is honoring these authors on the Web site for QUEST, the university’s comprehensive research communication initiative. The new page, http://quest.utk.edu/books/, features UT Knoxville faculty who have published a book in the last year, showcasing the rich creativity and rigorous scholarship produced by the university’s researchers and instructors.

“The author reception and the QUEST book page help shine the spotlight on the excellent work done by our faculty each year,” said Brad Fenwick, vice chancellor for research. “Whether it’s hard science or the humanities, their work expands the sum of our knowledge and brings lasting benefits to humankind.”
