Supply Chain and Logistics Faculty Lauded for Research
KNOXVILLE — The College of Business Administration at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, has been ranked No. 2 in the world by Transportation Journal for the research done by its supply chain/logistics faculty.
Transportation Journal is a premier industry journal, published quarterly, that features research findings and original writings on transportation, logistics and related fields. The journal looked at 2005 to 2007 and ranked the top 25 academic institutions, based on the number of times faculty from those institutions authored or co-authored articles in eight leading logistics, supply chain management and transportation journals.
UT Knoxville faculty authored or co-authored 24 articles, tying with Cranfield School of Management in the United Kingdom, to earn the No. 2 ranking. Faculty from the top-ranked institution, Michigan State University, authored or co-authored 31.
“UT’s ranking further acknowledges our consistent excellence in logistics/supply chain management scholarship,” said Ted Stank, associate dean of academic programs for the College of Business Administration. “We continue to be among the absolute best in the world in logistics/supply chain management education.”
The study also noted that international colleges and universities now make the ranking list, indicating the global interest in this field. Foreign countries represented in the top 25 included the United Kingdom, Finland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Sweden and the Netherlands.
UT’s ranking in this study supplements international rankings already earned through publications such as U.S. News & World Report, Journal of Business Logistics, BearingPoint Assessment Study and Supply Chain Management Review.
