UT Black Alumni Council Formed; Taylor Named President
KNOXVILLE – Johnny Taylor III, a 2007 University of Tennessee, Knoxville, graduate and Nashville native, has been named president of the newly established Black Alumni Council, part of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Alumni Association.
The council will provide social, professional and personal development programs for the university’s more than 6,000 alumni of color. Future activities planned by the council include an alumni speaker series, professional development workshops, programs for undergraduates, career mentoring programs and a financial planning seminar.
Taylor is a commercial relations specialist with SunTrust Bank and an active community volunteer. He works with UT’s Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, the Knoxville Area Urban League Young Professionals, Alpha Kappa Psi professional business fraternity and the INROADS minority career development and placement program.
As president of the council, Taylor will preside at semi-annual council meetings and leadership board meetings.
“Johnny’s commitment to the university is an example of the type of leadership he will bring to the organization and the position,” said Steve Catlett, associate vice chancellor for alumni affairs. “We are excited he has accepted the appointment and look forward to working with him.”
Applications are accepted for council leadership throughout the year, and selections are made in the spring. Those interested in the council should contact Phyllis Moore at (865) 974-3011 or phyllismoore@tennessee.edu.
