Children’s book illustrator Christopher Myers will speak at 7 p.m. today in the UC Auditorium. The event celebrates the 10th anniversary of UT’s Center for Children’s & Young Adult Literature.

The Center works to promote the use of literature in the education and lives of children and young adults by providing public workshops for teachers and librarians, and sponsoring talks by authors and illustrators.

Myers has received numerous awards for his illustrations, including a Coretta Scott King Honor for Black Cat, which he both wrote and illustrated, and a Caldecott Honor for his illustrations in Harlem, written by his father, Walter Dean Myers, with whom he often collaborates. One of his most recent books is a re-imagining of classic Lewis Carroll nonsense poem, “Jabberwocky.” Myers gives the battle with the Jabberwock a contemporary setting – on the basketball court.

The Black Cultural Programming Committee and the College of Communication and Information’s Student Diversity Leadership Group are sponsors of the event, which is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.
