Work has commenced on a new and more formal brick entrance to campus at Lake Loudoun Boulevard and Neyland Drive.

The project involves the building and installation of two curved brick structures, UT signage, and new landscaping. The new entranceway is an improvement set forth in the campus master plan. It will complement the existing formal entranceways on the Hill, Cumberland Avenue and the Agriculture campus.

A recent traffic study confirmed this entrance accommodates the majority of daily traffic, making it the most used entrance to the campus, said Jeff Maples, senior associate vice chancellor for finance and administration.

There will be periodic lane closures along Lake Loudoun Boulevard through Thursday, July 9, affecting both the north and southbound lanes. The entrance will remain open during this time and officers will be on hand to direct traffic during peak travel times.

The new entranceway will be finished in time for the fall semester. The landscaping will be completed in the early fall to avoid installing new plants in the hot summer months.
