Robert Daverman, professor of mathematics, has been named interim associate dean for research, graduate studies, and facilities in the College of Arts and Sciences. Daverman officially began his appointment as Interim Associate Dean on July 1.

In announcing the appointment, Dean Bruce Bursten said “Bob Daverman will bring a wealth of wisdom and experience to this position. We are delighted that he has agreed to serve in this leadership role in the college.”

A faculty member at UT Knoxville since 1967, Daverman served as interim head of the department of mathematics from 2003 to 2006. He is a distinguished scholar of geometric topology and is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He also serves as secretary of the American Mathematical Society, a position he has held since 1999.

Daverman succeeds William Dunne, who is now serving as the associate dean for research in the College of Engineering.

The College of Arts and Sciences will conduct a search for the new Associate Dean in the coming academic year.
