The first phase of the UT Office of Information Technology’s (OIT) upgrade of campus wireless Internet connectivity is complete, which means a more secure, reliable, and available wireless network for its users.

OIT encourages all students, faculty and staff to switch from the old wireless network, known as “nomad,” and begin using the new and improved network.

As a part of the upgrade, the names of the wireless networks have changed. So to begin using the new network, you will need to join one of the networks listed below. The old network, “nomad,” will remain live for a small period of time while users transition to the new network.

The new networks are:

• ut-open: This network is for students, faculty and staff and replaces the old “nomad” network
• ut-wpa2: This network is for students, faculty and staff and replaces the old “nomadx” and “nomad-secure” networks
• ut-visitor: This network is for visitors of the university and replaces the old “utk” network
• eduroam: This network is for visitors from other universities that participate in the “eduroam” wireless connectivity system (http://www.eduroam.org).
