2013 Spring Cleanup Begins March 4
Following the heavy haul of last year’s Spring Cleanup, the campus will kick off its 2013 spring-cleaning campaign the first week of March with the goal of decluttering and improving the look of academic buildings. Campus departments should use the Spring Cleanup as an opportunity to get rid of surplus equipment, used furniture, trash, and recyclables.
Last year, more than fifteen tons of waste were removed from the campus’s academic buildings, along with 656 tons of surplus equipment and furniture. The cleanup also generated twelve tons of recyclable scrap metal and fifteen cubic yards of construction and demolition waste.
Facilities Services and UT Warehousing are dedicating special resources to supporting the Cleanup and make it easier to move property out of your buildings. Staff from Facilities Services will go building-by-building to help units simplify the process. Computer and laboratory equipment, furniture, office supplies, paper files, and more may be recycled, discarded, or sent to UT Warehousing.
The Cleanup will begin with Taylor Law Center, Blount Hall, and TANDEC on March 4, and continue for fourteen weeks to include most academic buildings. See a complete schedule here. Academic units will be reminded of their upcoming Cleanup dates via email. Updates and schedule reminders will appear in Tennessee Today. Look for signs near your building and in your office areas as your Cleanup date approaches. Updates on the status of the Cleanup also will appear in Tennessee Today.
Prepare for the Cleanup
There are a few steps departments must take to prepare for their assigned Cleanup weeks. Forms for surplus property must be submitted to UT Warehousing one week before each unit’s assigned week. Forms may be submitted to the fax number listed on the forms.
