UT Knoxville English professor Stanton B. Garner Jr. has co-authored “The Norton Anthology of Drama,” the first of its kind to join the prestigious Norton Anthology series used in colleges and universities around the world.

UT Knoxville Faculty Authors Recognized with Reception, New Web Site
UT Knoxville faculty have written nearly 90 books over the last year, on topics ranging from textbooks on analytical statistics to the history of American cinema. The university recently recognized and celebrated that accomplishment with a reception held at Hodges Library, and with a new Web page featuring their books.

Nuclear Security Expert Hall Named Third UT-ORNL Governor’s Chair
Howard Hall, a nuclear chemist and expert in preventing and responding to nuclear terrorism, has been named as the third UT-ORNL Governor’s Chair. Hall, currently the radiological detection and response program leader at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, will hold appointments in the UT Knoxville nuclear engineering department and the global nuclear security division at ORNL.

Wayne Davis Named Engineering Dean
UT Knoxville has named Wayne T. Davis as the dean of its College of Engineering. Davis, who has served as the interim dean since May 2008, has worked at UT Knoxville for more than 30 years. His appointment follows a nationwide search. “Dr. Davis brings a level of experience and expertise to the table that is unmatched,” said UT Knoxville Chancellor Jimmy G. Cheek.

Appalachian Spring: Tickets on Sale for UT’s Gourmet Fundraiser
A nationally renowned chef. Locally grown and produced food. Great bluegrass entertainment and a silent auction of terrific items. All of this is on the menu at Appalachian Spring, to be held at 6 p.m. March 28 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Knoxville. The event, organized by students, is a fundraiser for the UT Knoxville Department of Retail, Hospitality and Tourism Management.

Greetings from Chancellor Cheek
It is an honor to begin serving today as chancellor of the Knoxville campus. I’m happy to officially become a Tennessee Volunteer. I look forward to spending time with members of the faculty and staff as well as the student body to learn about our strengths and the wonderful traditions of the university. My primary focus over these next months will be listening and learning as much about the campus and our extended community as I can.

UT Knoxville Says Thanks to Jan Simek
Faculty, staff and students have spent this week saying goodbye and thanks to Jan Simek, whose term as interim chancellor of the Knoxville campus ends today. Newly-appointed Chancellor Jimmy G. Cheek starts work Monday.

Going Lean and Green
UT Knoxville is going green and going lean by going online to send VolXpress billing statements to its students instead of sending them by mail each semester. By e-mailing billing statements to students, the campus will reduce printing costs along with the very large expense of return postage and remailing of statements that could not be delivered. All told, the campus stands to save more than $85,000 each year.

“The Triumph of Love” Comes to Clarence Brown Theatre Next Week
The Triumph of Love, Pierre Marivaux’s romantic comedy, will run Thursday, Jan. 29, through Sunday, Feb. 15, at the Clarence Brown Theatre. UT faculty and staff get "buy one get one free" tickets. An 18th century French farce exploring the nature of love and the conflict between passion and reason, The Triumph of Love showcases the lighthearted playfulness and plot complications that made playwright Pierre Marivaux popular both in his day and in contemporary theater.
