Hi. I'm Jimmy Cheek, chancellor of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
Faculty Appreciation Week begins February 17. This is a new effort to honor
faculty for their hard work and productivity. UT Knoxville's mission is to educate our students,
produce thoughtful, productive graduates who contribute to our state and our country,
to produce research and scholarship, and to extend the intellectual resources of this great university
to the state through outreach. Our faculty accomplish this mission every day in the classrooms
and laboratories across the campus. Our faculty are the reason why the University of Tennessee at Knoxville
is one of the nation's great public research universities. And why the governor recently challenged
us to be a top 25 public university. Highlights of this week will include
discounted tickets to basketball games, a reception and free showing of Charley's Aunt at
Clarence Brown Theatre, a Night At The Museum event, and discounts at various area
businesses. Stay tuned to Tennessee Today for event details and stories and videos that highlight
the impact of our faculty members. I hope that each of you will join us in celebrating our faculty.
