Well today marks WUOT's 60th anniversary and we are so pleased.
October 27, 1949, the University of Tennessee signed on WUOT.
It was only on the air a few hours a day
and through the last 60 years we've been a charter member station of NPR.
We were on of the very first FM stations in all the Southeast of the United States,
and we were the first public radio station in the state of Tennessee.
So we had a lot of firsts. Also, this year, our 60th anniversary year,
We have a first for winning a national Edward R. Murrow award for news excellence.
So we're very pleased at the support that we've had from the community.
We've done some fun things. Last week or so, we had our Fund Drive, which is an annual event--
best ever -- record breaking. We had over 180 thousand dollars worth of support from the community
and we really appreciate that. And today, we had some dignitaries come by our studio.
We had the Chancellor of the University of Tennessee, Dr. Jimmy Cheek, accepted proclamations from both the city
and the county. And the county mayor was here, so was a representative of the city mayor.
They brought proclamations to make today "WUOT Day."
So we're very pleased and excited and we're looking forward to the next 60.
