Cervone, Colter Elected as Exempt Staff Council Officers

Tom Cervone, program/managing director of the Department of Theatre and Clarence Brown Theatre, was recently elected chair of the Exempt Staff Council (ESC). Shane Colter, associate chief information officer for UT Knoxville administration and academics in OIT, will serve as chair elect.

Cervone and Colter began their one-year terms on July 1.

The ESC, counterpart to the Faculty Senate and Employee Relations Councils, is a body elected by peers to represent nearly 1,200 exempt (administrative and professional) Knoxville-area UT staff. The mission of the ESC is to provide a forum for discussing issues and exchanging ideas relevant to exempt staff and to provide a mechanism for communicating with other representative bodies and administrators.

Margie Russell, director of engineering advising, is the current outgoing ESC chair and will serve as an ex-officio member for the coming year.

Nominate Someone for the Exempt Staff Council by June 30

The Exempt Staff Council is accepting nominations for representatives from the following areas: College of Arts and Science – Basic Sciences; College of Education, Health and Human Services; College of Engineering; Institute of Agriculture Extension – West Division; Institute of Agriculture Experiment Station; Institute for Public Service – non-Knoxville and College of Social Work – SWORPS.

The deadline to submit a nomination is Wednesday, June 30. You may nominate yourself or someone else to serve on the council, which is composed of elected representatives from each administrative unit based on the number of exempt staff positions within each unit. Representatives serve a three-year term and cannot serve more than two consecutive terms. Representatives’ terms begin at the July 27 Exempt Staff Council meeting.

The following UT employees are the newest elected representatives to the Exempt Staff Council (ESC). The ESC, counterpart to the Faculty Senate and Employee Relations Councils, is a body elected by peers to represent nearly 1,200 exempt (administrative and professional) staff. Representatives serve a three-year term and can serve no more than two consecutive terms.

The ESC, counterpart to the Faculty Senate and Employee Relations Councils, is a body elected by peers to represent nearly 1,200 exempt (administrative and professional) staff. Representatives serve a three-year term and can serve no more than two consecutive terms.
