Kickoff is set for 7:02 p.m. Saturday. Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. ESPNU and ESPN 3D will televise the game.

Fans are encouraged to follow @UTGameday on Twitter for the latest updates on traffic, weather, gate information, and other game-day events.

Game Day Activities

Saturday is also Senior Day, when fourteen seniors on the football team will be honored for their contributions as student-athletes. The seniors will run through the “T” and join their families on the field for a special recognition to be held just ten minutes before kickoff.

The traditional Vol Walk will start at 4:45 p.m. on Volunteer Boulevard, near Circle Park. It will proceed down Volunteer Boulevard to the Torchbearer statue, down Peyton Manning Pass, turn left onto Phillip Fulmer Way, and enter the stadium.

The Pride of the Southland Marching Band will begin marching at 5:20 p.m. near the Rock on Volunteer Boulevard, march past the Torchbearer statue, turn right onto Andy Holt Avenue, and then right onto Phillip Fulmer Way. The band will briefly pause in front of the new amphitheater for their traditional salute to the Hill, then continue to the stadium.

Fans can attend the final College of Arts and Sciences’ Pregame Showcase, now in its twenty-second year. Held two hours before each home game kickoff in the University Center Ballroom, the showcase is a free thirty-minute presentation by a UT faculty member. This week, at 5:00 p.m., Michael Knight, professor of English, will share details about The Typist, his latest and highly acclaimed novel. The event is free and open to the public.

From 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., the Volunteer Village commercial display area will be open on the lawn of the Humanities and Social Sciences Building. Pregame festivities will be available for fans of all ages, including interactive inflatable games and live bands, as well as appearances from Smokey, Junior Smokey, cheerleaders, and the dance team.

Stadium Security

University officials are advising fans to avoid purchasing “print-at-home” game tickets from vendors outside the stadium. These tickets feature unique bar codes that are good for only one use, but are easily photocopied and resold multiple times, resulting in unusable counterfeit tickets. In addition, there have been issues this season with counterfeit tickets in general, so fans should know the source of any ticket prior to purchase.

UT reminds visitors that all items, including purses, are subject to search at the gates. Prohibited items include the following:

alcoholic beverages, cans, bottles, or coolers;

radios without headphones;

open umbrellas;

video cameras;

stadium seats with arms;

large bags or parcels, including backpacks and large purses; and

weapons of any kind, including pocketknives.

This year, bags larger than 12 inches by 12 inches by 12 inches cannot be brought into the stadium. This is the standard in use by the National Football League and by a growing number of collegiate sports facilities. Items larger than this standard size, as well as other prohibited items, cannot be stored at any stadium gate. To assist fans, boxes demonstrating the proper bag size will be placed at stadium gates and bus loading areas. This should help fans determine if their bags are too large to be allowed into the stadium.

Fans can bring the following items inside the stadium, provided they meet the size requirement:

cushions and seats without arms;

small diaper bags that accompany infants; and

small cameras, pagers, cell phones, and binoculars.

Under state law, no smoking will be allowed anywhere inside the gates of Neyland Stadium. Fans cannot leave the stadium and be re-admitted.

A no-fly zone extends over the stadium from one hour before the game until one hour after it ends, prohibiting flights within a 3-nautical-mile radius and lower than 3,000 feet in altitude, except as authorized by air traffic control.

Solicitation near stadium gates and along Phillip Fulmer Way is prohibited.

Parking and Road Closures

Only fans with permits can park on campus. UT encourages all fans to use shuttle buses from the university’s Kingston Pike building, the Knoxville Civic Coliseum, the Old City and Market Square areas of downtown Knoxville, and Farragut High School. Limited public handicapped parking spaces and handicapped shuttle service to the stadium are available on the UT Agriculture Campus, off Neyland Drive.

Many area hotels also offer shuttle service to the game. Check with your hotel’s management for details.

At 5:00 p.m. Phillip Fulmer Way, from Andy Holt Avenue to Peyton Manning Pass, will be closed to vehicle traffic for the duration of the game. Peyton Manning Pass, Middle and Lower Drives, and Estabrook Drive will also close at 6:30 p.m. Directional parking will be used in Area 9 and Lots 4, 5A, and 5B. Chamique Holdsclaw Drive from Lake Loudoun Boulevard to Pat Head Summitt Street is closed for the entire season.

For more information on game day parking, including a map of campus parking areas, visit http://web.utk.edu/~pso/maps.html.

Individual game tickets are available at http://www.uttix.com.

Homecoming Events

Homecoming will be celebrated across campus, with many colleges and academic departments hosting gatherings for their alumni and student organizations, engaging in relays and challenges that highlight UT spirit.

At 4:00 p.m. Friday, the Homecoming Parade, with Grand Marshal Condredge Holloway, begins at the Rock and will travel east on Volunteer Boulevard toward Neyland Stadium. Alumni groups celebrating reunions will participate, along with young children dressed in their finest orange and white outfits. Following the parade, the annual Smokey’s Howl cheer competition will be held at Tom Black Track.

Party in the Park, a large tailgate, will be held in Circle Park starting at 4:00 p.m. Saturday. Members of the pep band and cheerleading squad will be on hand as fans enjoy music, door prizes, face painting, and games for kids. The event is free and open to the public. Attendees can even take part in helping eat the world’s largest MoonPie, to be cut at 5:00 p.m.

To help fans unfamiliar with the game understand what was happening after kickoff, the program gave this description: “From this time until the close of the half, both teams are busily engaged in a mighty effort to carry…the ball over their goal line. When the ball is once over this much-coveted line, some player kicks it over the goal and a total score of six points is made.”

This football program and many others are being made available online for the public’s perusal. They are the newest addition to the digital collections on the UT Knoxville Libraries website.

Fans can read about the thrilling victories and crushing defeats, influential coaches and dedicated players of the Tennessee Volunteers. They also can reminisce about UT rivalries, retired Volunteer jerseys, and Smokey’s lineage and adventures. (Did you know Smokey II survived both a dognapping and a confrontation with the Baylor Bear?)

The collection includes programs and guides for home games and postseason games. Visitors to the website can browse by year, coach, guides, or postseason.

The Libraries’ University Archives has a nearly complete collection of Volunteer football programs going back to 1930, as well as a smattering of programs dating from 1904 to 1929. The library is scanning and uploading the programs in reverse order. To date, 246 programs (about 32,000 pages) going back to 1975 are available online.

Kickoff for the Volunteers’s game against the Gamecocks of the University of South Carolina is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. (ET). Gates open at 5:15 p.m. ESPN-2 will televise the game.

Fans are encouraged to follow @UTGameday on Twitter for up-to-the-minute updates on traffic, weather, gate info, and game day events, such as the Vol Walk.

Game Day Activities

The traditional Vol Walk will start at 5:00 p.m., on Volunteer Boulevard near Circle Park and will proceed down Volunteer Boulevard to the Torchbearer statue, then down Peyton Manning Pass, then turn left onto Phillip Fulmer Way and enter the stadium.

The Pride of the Southland Marching Band will begin marching at 5:35 p.m., near the Rock on Volunteer Boulevard, march past the Torchbearer statue, then turn right onto Andy Holt Avenue, then right onto Phillip Fulmer Way. The band will briefly pause in front of the new amphitheater for their traditional salute to the Hill, then continue to the stadium.

The UT Institute of Agriculture will hold its annual Ag Day on Saturday, beginning four hours prior to kickoff. This year’s theme is “New Places, New Faces.” Some of the newest leaders of the Institute of Agriculture, including Chancellor Larry Arrington and John Stier, assistant dean of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, will be on hand to greet the public.

Ag Day visitors also will have a chance to see the Brehm Animal Sciences and Food Science and Technology buildings, set for completion in spring 2012. Fans can enjoy live music, free ice cream and popcorn, an insect petting zoo, walking tours of the UT Gardens, and an opportunity to tour “Living Light,” UT’s nationally recognized solar house.

Fans also can attend the College of Arts and Sciences’s Pregame Showcase, now in its twenty-second year. Held two hours before each home game kickoff in the University Center Ballroom, the showcase is a free thirty-minute presentation by a UT faculty member. This week, at 5:15 p.m., Tom Burman, professor and head of the Department of History, will discuss “Christians’ Reaction to the Koran in History.”

From 3:15 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., the Volunteer Village commercial display area will be open on the lawn of the Humanities and Social Sciences Building. Pregame festivities will be available for fans of all ages, including interactive inflatable games, live bands, appearances from Smokey, Junior Smokey, cheerleaders, and the dance team.

With Halloween taking place two days after the game, university and law enforcement authorities are reminding fans that a Knoxville city ordinance prohibits the wearing of masks in public places, including Neyland Stadium. Officials have announced the following additional security measures for the game:

Fans wearing Halloween costumes will be allowed to enter the stadium, but will be searched to ensure that no prohibited items enter the stadium;

No masks of any kind will be permitted, and will be confiscated if discovered, although face painting is allowed;

Masks cannot be stored at any stadium gate;

No props (including toy guns, swords or any simulated weapon) or artificial noisemakers will be permitted inside the stadium; and

No banners, posters or signs larger than standard letter-size paper will be permitted.

UT reminds visitors that all items, including purses, are subject to search at the gates. Prohibited items include the following:

alcoholic beverages, cans, bottles, or coolers;

radios without headphones;

open umbrellas;

video cameras;

stadium seats with arms;

large bags or parcels, including backpacks and large purses; and

weapons of any kind, including pocketknives.

This year, bags larger than twelve inches by twelve inches by twelve inches cannot be brought into the stadium.

Fans can bring the following items inside the stadium, provided they meet the size requirement:

cushions and seats without arms;

small diaper bags that accompany infants; and

small cameras, pagers, cell phones and binoculars.

Under state law, no smoking will be allowed anywhere inside the gates of Neyland Stadium. Fans cannot leave the stadium and be re-admitted.

A no-fly zone extends over the stadium from one hour before the game until one hour after it ends, prohibiting flights within a three-nautical-mile radius and lower than 3,000 feet in altitude, except as authorized by air traffic control.

Solicitation near stadium gates and along Phillip Fulmer Way is prohibited.

Parking and Road Closures

Only fans with permits can park on campus. UT encourages all fans to use shuttle buses from the university’s Kingston Pike building, the Knoxville Civic Coliseum, the Old City and Market Square areas of downtown Knoxville and Farragut High School. Limited public handicapped parking spaces and handicapped shuttle service to the stadium are available on the UT Agriculture Campus, off Neyland Drive.

Many area hotels also offer shuttle service to the game. Check with your hotel’s management for details.

At 5:00 p.m., Phillip Fulmer Way, from Andy Holt Avenue to Peyton Manning Pass, will be closed to vehicle traffic for the duration of the game. At 6:45 p.m., Peyton Manning Pass, Middle and Lower Drives, and Estabrook Drive will be closed. Directional parking will be used in Area 9 and Lots 4, 5A and 5B. Chamique Holdsclaw Drive from Lake Loudoun Boulevard to Pat Head Summitt Street is closed for the entire season.

Stadium Security

University officials say attendance for the UT—LSU game may be the largest of the season, and they are urging fans to arrive early.

“With LSU ranked the top college football team in the country, we expect a large turnout of fans, both inside and outside the stadium,” Jeff Maples, senior associate vice chancellor of finance and administration, said. “We’re asking everyone to cooperate by not waiting until the last minute to try to enter the stadium.”

Kickoff for the Volunteers’ game against the University of Georgia Bulldogs is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. ESPN-2 will televise the game.

Fans are encouraged to follow @UTGameday on Twitter for up-to-the-minute updates on traffic, weather, gate info, and game day events, such as the Vol Walk.

Game Day Activities

The traditional Vol Walk will start at 4:45 p.m. on Volunteer Boulevard near Circle Park and will proceed down Volunteer Boulevard to the Torchbearer statue, then down Peyton Manning Pass, then turn left onto Phillip Fulmer Way and enter the stadium.

The Pride of the Southland Marching Band will begin marching at 5:20 p.m. near the Rock on Volunteer Boulevard, march past the Torchbearer statue, then turn right onto Andy Holt Avenue, then right onto Phillip Fulmer Way. The band will briefly pause in front of the new amphitheater for their traditional salute to the Hill, then continue to the stadium.

Fans also can attend the College of Arts and Sciences’ Pregame Showcase, now in its twenty-second year. Held two hours before each home game kickoff in the University Center Ballroom, the showcase is a free thirty-minute presentation by a UT faculty member. This week, at 5:00 p.m., Jered Sprecher, associate professor in the School of Art, will lead the audience through “An Exploration of Humanity Through Abstract Painting.”

From 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., the Volunteer Village commercial display area will be open on the lawn of the Humanities and Social Sciences Building. Pregame festivities will be available for fans of all ages, including interactive inflatable games, live bands, appearances from Smokey, Junior Smokey, cheerleaders and the dance team.

Challenger, an American bald eagle, will swoop down into Neyland Stadium at the conclusion of the national anthem, just before kickoff. Challenger, who is cared for at the American Eagle Foundation in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., is the nation’s first bald eagle trained to free-fly into sports stadiums.

Stadium Security

University officials say attendance for the UT-Georgia game may be the season’s largest, and they are urging fans to arrive early.

“The Georgia game is always one of our largest in terms of attendance,” Jeff Maples, senior associate vice chancellor of finance and administration, said. “We’re asking fans to cooperate by not waiting until the last minute to try to enter the stadium.”

UT reminds visitors that all items, including purses, are subject to search at the gates. Prohibited items include the following:

artificial noisemakers;

alcoholic beverages, cans, bottles or coolers;

radios without headphones;

open umbrellas;

video cameras;

stadium seats with arms;

large bags or parcels, including backpacks and large purses; and

weapons of any kind, including pocketknives.

This year, bags larger than twelve inches by twelve inches by twelve inches cannot be brought into the stadium.

Fans can bring the following items inside the stadium, provided they meet the size requirement:

cushions and seats without arms;

small diaper bags that accompany infants; and

small cameras, pagers, cell phones and binoculars.

At 4:45 p.m., Phillip Fulmer Way, from Andy Holt Avenue to Peyton Manning Pass, will be closed to vehicle traffic for the duration of the game. At 6:30 p.m., Peyton Manning Pass, Middle and Lower Drives, and Estabrook Drive will be closed. Directional parking will be used in Area 9 and Lots 4, 5A, and 5B. Chamique Holdsclaw Drive from Lake Loudoun Boulevard to Pat Head Summitt Street is closed for the entire season.

Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. ET for the Volunteers’ game against the University of Montana Grizzlies. Gates open at 4:00 p.m. VideoSeat pay-per-view will televise the game.

Fans are encouraged to follow @UTGameday on Twitter for up-to-the-minute updates on traffic, weather, gate info, and game day events, such as the Vol Walk.

New Road, River Traffic, and Security Changes

All lanes of Neyland Drive approaching campus will be open for the football season as renovation work continues on the Henley Bridge over the nearby Tennessee River. Due to the closure of the Henley Bridge, after each home game, all southbound traffic will be routed to the Gay Street Bridge or the South Knoxville Connector Bridge.

Construction work on the Henley Bridge also has narrowed the river channel, reducing traffic on the Tennessee River and reducing the number of slips available for the “Vol Navy,” the traditional flotilla of fans who park their boats along the river prior to the game.

UT reminds visitors that all items, including purses, are subject to search at the gates. This year, bags larger than 12 inches by 12 inches by 12 inches cannot be brought into the stadium. This is the standard in use by the National Football League and by a growing number of collegiate sports facilities.
Game Day Activities

The traditional Vol Walk will start at 3:45 p.m. on Volunteer Boulevard near Circle Park and will proceed down Volunteer Boulevard to the Torchbearer statue. The team members will then gather at Circle Park, where they will pay tribute to the Torchbearer and the spirit of service to others that it represents. From the Torchbearer, the team will walk down Peyton Manning Pass, then turn left onto Phillip Fulmer Way and enter the stadium.

The Pride of the Southland Marching Band will begin marching at 4:20 p.m. near the Rock on Volunteer Boulevard, march past the Torchbearer statue, then right onto Andy Holt Avenue, then right onto Phillip Fulmer Way. The band will briefly pause in front of the new amphitheater for their traditional salute to the Hill, then continue to the stadium.

This week, at 4:00 p.m., internationally acclaimed pianist David Northington, professor in the School of Music, will present A Musical Tribute to a Great American: Aaron Copland.

From 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. the Volunteer Village commercial display area will be open on the lawn of the Humanities and Social Sciences Building.

KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, welcomes fans to campus Saturday for the year’s final home football game.

Kickoff for the Volunteers’ game against the Wildcats of the University of Kentucky is scheduled for 12:21 p.m. ET. Gates open at 10:15 a.m. The SEC Sports Network will televise the game.

Game Day Activities

The traditional Vol Walk will start on Volunteer Boulevard, just east of the intersection with Lake Loudoun Boulevard. The walk will begin at 10 a.m. and will proceed down Volunteer Boulevard, past the Torchbearer statue, then down Peyton Manning Pass, then left onto Phillip Fulmer Way.

The band will begin its march to the stadium at 10:40 a.m. at the intersection of Pat Head Summitt Street and Volunteer Boulevard and will proceed down Volunteer Boulevard, past the Torchbearer statue, then right on Andy Holt Avenue, then right onto Phillip Fulmer Way. The band will briefly pause in front of the new amphitheater for its traditional salute to The Hill, then continue to the stadium.

Fans can attend the College of Arts and Sciences’ Pregame Faculty Showcase, now in its 21st year. Held two hours before each home game kickoff in the University Center Ballroom, the showcase is a free 30-minute presentation by a UT faculty member, followed by a 15-minute question-and-answer session. This week, Brandon C. Prins, associate professor of political science, will present a talk titled “The Pendulum of Congressional Power: Partisan Opposition to Presidential Foreign Policy.”

The Volunteer Village commercial display area will be open on the lawn of the Humanities and Social Sciences Building from 9 a.m. to noon. Also on display at Volunteer Village is the UT Zero Energy House prototype, created by a team of UT Knoxville faculty and students to demonstrate environmentally sustainable design.

Saturday also is Senior Day, when the graduating seniors on the squad are honored for all they have done for Tennessee during their time as student-athletes. The seniors will be honored with a special ceremony 10 minutes before kickoff.

Stadium Security

This season, UT Athletics has introduced a fan text messaging system. The system allows fans to request immediate assistance from event management and security personnel through a text message.

From a personal cell phone, fans can text the location and details pertaining to an incident, including the section, row and seat number, to 69050. The fan then will receive acknowledgement of the message, and stadium staff, security or emergency personnel will be alerted and respond to the site. Standard text messaging rates will apply, based on the provider.

UT reminds visitors that all items, including purses, are subject to search at the gates. Certain items remain prohibited inside the stadium, and those items cannot be stored at any stadium gate.

Prohibited items include the following:

alcoholic beverages, cans, bottles or coolers

radios without headphones

open umbrellas

video cameras

stadium seats with arms

large bags or parcels, including backpacks and large purses

cushions and seats without arms

A no-fly zone extends over the stadium from one hour before the game until one hour after it ends, prohibiting flights within a three-nautical-mile radius and lower than 3,000-feet altitude, except as authorized by air traffic control.

Solicitation near stadium gates and along Phillip Fulmer Way is prohibited.

Only fans with permits can park on campus.
Kickoff for the Volunteers’ game against the Rebels of the University of Mississippi is scheduled for 12:11 p.m. ET. Gates open at 10 a.m. CBS Sports will televise the game.

Game Day Activities

The traditional Vol Walk will start on Volunteer Boulevard, just east of the intersection with Lake Loudoun Boulevard. The walk will begin at 9:45 a.m. and will proceed down Volunteer Boulevard, past the Torchbearer statue, then down Peyton Manning Pass, then left onto Phillip Fulmer Way.

The band will begin its march to the stadium at 10:20 a.m. at the intersection of Pat Head Summitt Street and Volunteer Boulevard and will proceed down Volunteer Boulevard, past the Torchbearer statue, then right on Andy Holt Avenue, then right onto Phillip Fulmer Way.

This week, Soren Sorensen, professor and head of the department of physics and astronomy, will present a talk titled “Nature’s Legos: The Building Blocks of the Universe.”

The Volunteer Village commercial display area will be open on the lawn of the Humanities and Social Sciences Building from 8:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Also on display at Volunteer Village this season is the UT Zero Energy House prototype, created by a team of UT Knoxville faculty and students to demonstrate environmentally sustainable design.

To commemorate Veterans Day, a fly-over of Neyland Stadium will be conducted by a military aircraft from the 134th Air Refueling Wing, stationed at the McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base adjacent to the Knoxville airport. The aircraft, a KC-135 in-flight refueler, will fly over the stadium at the end of the national anthem prior to the start of the game. The crew members are Lt. Col. Gary Smith, Capt. Justin Wilson and Senior Master Sgt. Michael Buckner.

Homecoming Events

Homecoming will be celebrated across campus, with many colleges and academic departments hosting gatherings for their alumni and student organizations engaging in relays and challenges that highlight UT spirit.

A statue of legendary Vols coach Gen. Robert Neyland will be dedicated at 2:30 p.m. Friday near stadium gates 16 and 17. A section of Phillip Fulmer Way will be closed during the event.

At 4 p.m. Friday, Grand Marshal and UT System President-elect Joe DiPietro will lead the campus parade from the Rock, at the corner of Volunteer Boulevard and Pat Head Summitt Street, east on Volunteer toward Neyland Stadium. DiPietro will assume the duties of president on Jan. 1, 2011.

Party in the Park, a large tailgate, will be held in Circle Park starting at 9 a.m. Saturday. Members of the pep band and cheerleading squad will be on hand as fans enjoy music, door prizes, face painting and games for kids. The tailgate is free and open to the public. Attendees can even take part in helping eat the world’s largest MoonPie, to be cut at 10:45 a.m.

For more information on Homecoming events, visit http://www.utk.edu/tntoday/2010/11/08/homecoming-2010/.
