4-H Camps

Electric Camp

Cost: $200
Fee includes the cost of meals, lodging, field trips, insurance, program, etc. Transportation fees are covered by members of the Tennessee Electric Cooperative Association.

Smart Camp

Location: W.P. Ridley 4-H Center in Columbia, Tennessee

Other camps
4-H also offers Junior 4-H Camps for grades 4–6. The five-day residential camps, which are held at various sites around the state, include swimming, golfing, music, group sports, and hiking.

4-H Adventure Camps, for grades 6–8, are for held at various sites around the state, and offer activities like mock archaeological digs, fishing, tubing, nature hikes, canoeing, swimming, and survivor challenges.

Architecture and Design

Design Matters Camp

Location: Art and Architecture Building, 1715 Volunteer Boulevard
Offers high school students an introduction to the design of the built environment and the considerations that shape it. The setting, curriculum, and instruction also provide the opportunity to experience life as a design student on a university campus for one week. Curiosity is the sole prerequisite; previous architecture or design experience is not necessary.

McClung Museum camps

Dig It! Fun with Fossils

Campers will explore dinosaurs, mosasaurs, mastodons and other extinct animals by examining real fossils and participating in a variety of activities such as excavation, recording, making molds and casts, studying “rock” layers, following tracks and other fun activities. Achaeokids: Exploring Ancient Art and Archaeology

Campers will learn about archaeology, art and ancient peoples by exploring artifacts, technology, foods, and artworks, especially of ancient Egyptians and Native Americans. Activities include making pottery, testing hunting skills with a spear thrower, making a mummy mask, and examining real artifacts. All materials and a daily snack are included. Team Camp is an intense, structured program that will focus on team development and performance through training with high school teammates and competition against participating camp teams. Architecture and Design Design Matters Camp (July 10-16) — A camp that provides the opportunity to experience life as a design student on a university campus for one week. Previous architecture or design experience is not necessary.

Howard Baker Center Summer Scholars Experience (June 6-10) — A one-week opportunity to understand how the political system works and ways you can impact the community through public policy.

• Grades: rising high school juniors or rising seniors. Students preparing to enroll in college for the fall term should not apply.

• June 7 -10 — 9 a.m.-4 p.m. daily.

Transportation Academy — A week-long adventure for middle school girls where they will discover and explore the multifaceted world of how we move from place to place through exciting and fun activities.

• Grades: 7-8, rising (females only)

Activities include a UT driving simulator test drive, examining debris from a car wreck to solving the mystery of how it happened, a behind‐the‐scenes tour of McGhee‐Tyson Airport, crashing remote control cars and evaluating the damage and building freight delivery vehicles. Students will need to be dropped off and picked up at the UT Conference Center building each day. Transportation, food and supplies are included. Space is limited to 16 girls, and a teacher recommendation will be required.
