Died December 22, 2008 in Knoxville, TN.

Baumann proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII as a P-51 pilot in the 52nd Fighter Group, becoming a member of the Caterpillar Club. He retired in 1983 from JCPenney Company as store manager, following a 35 year career which began on Gay street in Knoxville and took him to Jacksonville, Florida, Shreveport, Louisiana, Macon, Georgia, Miami, Florida, Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Greenville, North Carolina, and Paducah, Kentucky. A military history buff and author of Freshman to Fighter Pilot, a book describing his flight training and war experience, Baumann also wrote a number of articles for the Friends of the Air Force Museum magazine. He received his bachelor’s degree from the College of Business Administration.
