T. Ralph Combs, of Rutledge, TN, died March 5, 2010. He served overseas during WWII, both in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. He attended Carson-Newman College, Cambridge University, and graduated from the University of Tennessee, receiving his bachelor’s degree from the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. Ralph began his teaching career at Parrottsville High School teaching vocational agriculture, and later taught at Washburn and Rutledge High Schools, where both he and his students were active in the Future Farmers of America. Upon his retirement in 1978, he continued to own and operate one of the largest dairy farms in Grainger County.
