News Students Can Use

Students have a new way to keep in touch with campus happenings. It’s a weekly e-newsletter called student@tennessee.

It began publishing in mid-March. Although it takes a hiatus during the summer, it will resume publication in the fall.

Student@tennessee was developed by the Dean of Students Office, the Office of Public Relations, and the Student Government Association.

Michael JonesMichael Jones, a junior majoring in college scholars with an emphasis on international communication in foreign policy and diplomacy, was tapped to run the e-newsletter.

A member of Student Alumni Associates and president of the Central Program Council, the largest student programming body on campus, Jones understands the importance of getting involved.

“Setting foot on a campus with 19,000 other undergraduates is intimidating. The University of Tennessee is a dynamic place with endless opportunities for its students,” said Jones, who is from Nashville.

Without good communication, students will never be able to fully appreciate all the great things happening at UT.

“But on a campus this large, it is nearly impossible to know about everything that is happening. Hopefully student@tennessee will serve to remedy that problem,” Jones said. “Without good communication, students will never be able to fully appreciate all the great things happening at UT.”

The content of student@tennessee is submitted to and chosen by Jones based on what is of interest to the student body. It includes categories such as Good News, Mark Your Calendar, and Important Deadlines. It also highlights community events that relate to campus programs.
