Kickoff to Commencement
D eana Carter (’89) headlined Kickoff to Commencement, a May 9 celebration that preceded the individual colleges’ graduation ceremonies. Thompson-Boling Arena was closed for renovations, so the traditional university-wide commencement couldn’t be held this year. Students suggested the kickoff event at the Joe Johnson/John Ward Pedestrian Mall as an alternative. Graduates and families mingled, ate, and enjoyed the performance by Carter, a well-known country music star.
