Love United Gospel Choir Celebrates 30
Celebrating the Legacy and Continuing the Vision
Love United Gospel Choir, originally known as the John 23rd Singers, will host a 30th-anniversary celebration as part of Homecoming 2007. The choir, which has performed throughout the eastern United States, serves the campus and community and ministers through song.
LUGC is a charter member of the National Association of Collegiate Gospel Choirs for the United States and Canada and was recognized for its contributions during the Emerging Leaders Summit held in Huntsville, Alabama, in April.
LUGC educates and promotes awareness of African American culture and history through song, makes presentations related to the contribution of the gospel art form throughout American history, and promotes appreciation for gospel.
During Spring Break 2007, the choir toured Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee, performing benefit concerts and participating in community service projects as part of relief efforts for families affected by Hurricane Katrina. The choir also participated in a national book launch for author Nikki Giovanni in March.
The anniversary celebration plans include a variety of surprises for alumni of LUGC. All alumni are encouraged to attend and to make donations to the scholarship fund. Please register for the celebration by completing and submitting the information requested on the Homecoming registration page (page 13). For more information, contact:
