Samuel C. Collins (1920, 1924) was a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a member of the National Academy of Science. He was a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a research chemist at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C.

William E. Derryberry (1928) was president of Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, Tennessee, from 1940 to 1974.

Harvey B. Broome (1923) was a cofounder of the National Wilderness Society and served as its president from 1957 to 1968. A Knoxville attorney, he was the author of Earth Man, Faces of the Wilderness, and Out Under the Sky of the Great Smokies.

Howard Baker Sr. (1922, 1924) served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1951 to 1964.

Marion Speed Boyd (1921) was U.S. district judge for the western district of Tennessee from 1940 to 1961 and chief judge from 1961 to 1966.

James Zwingle (1929, 1932) was president of Park College (Missouri) from 1947 to 1955. He later was a vice president at Cornell University and president of the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges.

Freddie Lou Haworth, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, died October 9, 2009. She was a graduate of the University of Tennessee, receiving her bachelor’s degree from the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences.

Thomas Davis “Tommy” Bridges (1929) pitched for the Detroit Tigers and for Portland, Seattle, and San Francisco. He was named to the American League All Star staff six times in the 1930s.
