Curtis DeWayne Phillipy, of Memphis, died October 25, 2009. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee, receiving his bachelor’s degree from the College of Business Administration. He owned and operated a successful insurance business for many years.

Jim Clayton (1957, 1964) is founder and chairman of Clayton Homes, headquartered in Knoxville. Clayton received the Coopers and Lybrand Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 1988, the Horatio Alger Award in 1991, and the Wall Street Transcript Gold Award in 1987, 1988, 1990 and 1992-1994.

Jerry David Madden (1957) is an author of novels and short stories and an editor of textbooks. Two novels, Sharpshooter: A Novel of the Civil War and The Suicide’s Wife, were nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. He holds an endowed professorship in creative writing at Louisiana State University.

John T. Majors (1957) was a football All-America in 1956 and runner-up for the Heisman trophy. He was head football coach of the Volunteers from 1977 to 1992 and also coached at the University of Pittsburgh, where his team won the 1976 NCAA national championship. During the Korean War, Henry served in the U.S. Navy as a medic. He enjoyed a long career with BASF as a project manager in both Williamsburg, Virginia and Anderson, South Carolina. He received his bachelor’s degree from the College of Business Administration.
