Douglas Charles Brown (1974) was the first UT athlete to qualify for Olympic competition in 1972. He also competed in 1976 and qualified in 1980. As head track coach at UT, his squad won the 1991 national championship and Brown was named national coach of the year.

Holly Warlick (1980) is a member of the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame. She is an assistant coach for the basketball Lady Vols. As a player, she was a three-time All-America.

John Ward (1953) is the retired “Voice of the Vols,” who formerly broadcast Volunteer men’s basketball and football. He broadcast UT football for 31 seasons and basketball for 34 until retiring in 1999. He is a member of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame.

Heath Shuler (2001) is a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from North Carolina. He is a former quarterback for the Tennessee Volunteers.

Patty Wiegand Pitcher (1991) was a seven-time track and field All-America and a finalist for the 1991 NCAA Woman of the Year.

John J. Michels was an All-America guard on the 1952 Volunteer football team. He played professionally for the Philadelphia Eagles and was an assistant coach with the Minnesota Vikings for 27 years. He is a member of the National Football Foundation’s College Football Hall of Fame.

Peyton Manning (1998) is quarterback of the NFL Indianapolis Colts. He was an All-America at Tennessee and won the Sullivan Award for the top amateur athlete in the nation. Catherine Byrne Maloney (1992) was an All-America swimmer and an academic All-America. She was the 1992 NCAA Woman of the Year. She is the Director of the Center for Rehabilitation Medicine for Emory Healthcare.

John T. Majors (1957) was a football All-America in 1956 and runner-up for the Heisman trophy. He was head football coach of the Volunteers from 1977 to 1992 and also coached at the University of Pittsburgh, where his team won the 1976 NCAA national championship. Francis E. “Hank” Lauricella attended UT in Knoxville from 1949 to 1951. He was an All-America football player and runner-up for the Heisman trophy. He is a member of the National Football Foundation’s College Football Hall of Fame. He served 32 years in the Louisiana legislature.
