University monitoring coronavirus outbreak

January 29, 2020

The University of Tennessee is coordinating with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Tennessee Department of Health, the Knox County Health Department (KCHD), and international health safety and security agencies to closely monitor the ongoing coronavirus outbreak in China.

UT has no reports of coronavirus cases. The Student Health Center is now following CDC recommendations for screenings. If you are concerned, because of your recent travel history and symptoms, that you may be infected with this virus, or may have been exposed to it, please contact the health center’s Telephone Triage Nurse at (865) 974-5080 before coming to the Student Health Center.

All patients presenting to the Student Health Center with cough and fever will be masked to protect other patients as the cause of their illness is being determined. In addition, all patients will be asked a travel history to determine if they are at risk for the newly identified Coronavirus.

The Center for Global Engagement (CGE) has suspended education abroad programs to China and will work with affected students on alternate academic arrangements.

All UT students, faculty, and staff are also urged to monitor the CDC for the latest information on the coronavirus, including prevention tips.

Many members of the Volunteer community have family and friends who may be affected by the outbreak. Students can receive support through (865) 974-HELP. Faculty and staff can access support services by calling (865) 946- CARE.
