The last descendent of Smokey I, Smokey IV served in 1978 and 1979 under head football coaches Bill Battle and Johnny Majors. During his tenure, the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity became Smokey’s campus keepers and handlers for special events. Smokey IV died of cancer in 1979.
