Community at UT

Clubs & organizations   

UT makes finding your people and settling into community easy. With help from more than 450 clubs and organizations, you can dig deeper into your interests and make lifelong friends. Several offer online meeting options for students near and far. 

Over a quarter of undergraduate students are involved in Greek life, with 47 chapters at UT.

Athletics   

Game days are our favorite here on Rocky Top. There’s nothing like breaking out your orange gear and feeling the electricity in the air as you meet up with friends to cheer on the Vols!

Events

You won’t have to look too far to find fun and valuable experiences to fill your time outside of class. Right here on campus you can attend the theatre, explore a museum, or get creative in maker spaces

Connections   

You’ll always be a Volunteer, even after you earn your degree. You’ll join a global alumni network of more than 290,000 Vols upon graduation.  

Prioritizing your wellness

Your health and wellness are important to you, and they’re important to us, too! At UT,  you’ll find several ways to invest in your physical and mental health.

Mental health

All students have access to mental health counseling services. Students on campus can visit the Student Counseling Center and online learners can get connected to support any time through Telus Health.

Physical health

Whether you’re into weightlifting or pickleball, rock climbing or group fitness classes, UT’s RecSports has just what you need for your favorite type of workout. There are memberships for all types of students.

UT also has a pharmacy and health center right here on campus that provides a range of health care services for students.

Health education  

Sleep, nutrition, stress, and relationships are all aspects of life that impact your overall health. At UT, we offer wellness coaching and workshops in addition to other student support initiatives that are designed to help you take care of yourself.

Living in Knoxville

Students often call Knoxville the perfect place. Whether you’re into the downtown scene or outdoor adventures, our city has something for you.

Memories are made everywhere on campus, including the residence halls where you’ll live as a first-year undergraduate student at UT.

There are over 30 locations on campus where students can find snacks, meals, and drinks—not to mention the food trucks that park on campus!

Volunteers—it’s not just our nickname; it’s our way of life. Vols are leaders, change-makers, and innovators. We work to make the communities around us better through giving of our time and talent.  

You’ll be equipped with the tools you need to carry the Volunteer spirit into your career and life after graduation. Through global community service programs like VOLbreaks and Ignite 865 designed for incoming first-year students as an introduction to Knoxville, you’ll learn the true meaning behind lighting the way for others.
